Job Description
A phlebotomist specializes in collecting and transporting blood specimens. These technicians work with other health care team members and help patients feel more comfortable when giving blood or having a sample collected. The technician is often the only link between the patient and the medical lab.
Training Opportunities
The Phlebotomy Certificate Program is a one semester short term certificate course designed to prepare the successful graduate to practice as a phlebotomist, by a combination of didactic instruction, laboratory, and clinical practicum. The graduate will be prepared for and may be qualified to challenge the credentialing examinations for The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

Our Phlebotomy Program is designed to train individuals to collect blood for laboratory analysis necessary for the diagnosis and care of the patient. This one-semester program trains the phlebotomist to perform venipuncture, capillary puncture, and CPR.
Pre-requisites required:No applicant will be considered unless the minimum admission requirements are met. Admission requirements are evaluated by the use of a rating scale (see sample rating scale attached), which includes ACT scores, GPA, healthcare work experience, and applicable previous degrees earned. All applicants are considered on a competitive basis. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission into the program. The number of applicants accepted is limited due to the nature of the program.
